Technical

The fonts of the applications in KDE/Gnome are very big. Why?

They are on purpose big since it is presumed that the user will stay few meters away from the TV.
You may change them from KDE start -> Control Center -> Appearance and Themes -> Fonts.
For gnome applications start gtk-chteme in a xterm/konsole.

MythTV gives me the following message:
Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?

Most probably this message is harmless since an automatic procedure to restart the master backend server is already running. Therefore you should retry your command.

While watching TV/etc., the image freezes. What should I do?

This should not really happen. However, there is an easy way out.
Press CTRL+ALT+ESC. Your cursor will transform into a
Jolly Roger.
Just press enter or left click your mouse and the frozen window will disappear.
Then restart MythTV by pressing enter.
